so there’s all this crazy stuff going on on campus. 2nd floor of the union is free karaoke in one of the lounges–so i walk by and hear ac/dc, or outkast, or the b-52s and horrible singing and dancing, and then there’s a big yellow inflatable tent out in the lawn of the union for lazer tag–and then there’s tibetan monks on campus this week creating a sand mandala on the 3rd floor.

i have to write a response on walt whitman for tomorrow, and i think i’m going to use walt whitman for the basis of my bigger paper for american lit. i just have no idea WHAT it’s going to be about. i don’t think i’ve ever read whitman before, but i really love it. even if i don’t understand it completely. the language is just wonderful.

today in nonfiction class we could hear music blasting from somewhere near by. it was just really distracting to hear “crazy train” while trying to discuss a paper. I also had a hard time presenting my critique to the class with “roll out” in the background.

i found an old notebook from ages 15-16 with poems and it’s absolutely the worst. worse than my journals from 7th grade through last semester. i recently stopped writing in notebook journals because i felt they were uncreative and too self indulgent (i don’t know why this diarything doesn’t feel the same–since other people see it i suppose). this is just a trial run without the real thing, a real paper notebook to carry around with me–i have to keep other notebooks for other classes so that keeps me a little occupied. over the summer i’ll probably start up again–but try to make it for myself but not just records of what i did and plan to do and not tragic if anyone else happens to stumble upon it…i don’t know if that’s a mistake or not. it’ll be a place to store ideas. random quotes. i woke up the other night, around three a.m. and had to write, “daily musings of the morning commute” in my tiny notebook for poetry and i’m not sure why. but the phrase was in my head when i woke up for 30 seconds.

in other news: tomorrow i travel back to the land of college. it will be unexciting to get back into the groove of doing homework all the time. i have three weeks of classes plus finals week left. after that everything is going to change and i will be just about halfway done with this college thing (i’ll probably make it in 4.5 years).

i might or might not have an apartment for next year. and he’s staying for summer classes–we will be three hours apart and i worry about that and what’s to come after that.

went to visit the boyfriend after three days of spring break. we didn’t do much–rented lost in translation–and his mom thanked me for looking after her boy. he made me a pancake as big as the pan this afternoon with perfection (bisquick).

during breaks he lives with his parents and we have to sleep in separate rooms. but in the mornings–after his parents have left for work–i wake up and crawl into his bed. never seen anyone so happy to be woken up in the morning. i couldn’t fall back asleep but i listened to him snore and drew figure eights on his back with my finger.

we workshopped two of my poems today in poetry and it was AWESOME! after class my teacher asked me my major, my year, and if i had taken any previous creative writing classes–and then said, “you’re going to take the rest though, right?” and then said that i should because he really thinks that i have a “knack” for it.

it just really felt good even if it doesn’t mean a whole lot.

it’s really weird how i meet so many people at parties, and they actually remember me and my name when i see them weeks later, but i have no idea who they are. boy am i memorable or what.

we played this drinking game last night where we improvised a story and went around the circle and everytime someone hesitated to start their story then everyone had to drink–it was really hard being right after my boyfriend who said, “and that’s when the unicorn showed up.”

ordered drunken pizza last night and the pizza man used to work at hardee’s too. for obvious reasons it was an amazing bonding experience.

earlier in the day yesterday, i was at the union just waiting to get a smoothie and some guy walks up to me and says, “please turn around ma’am.” and i was like, “what?” i thought something was wrong. and then he kept mumbling something (thug talk) and i couldn’t understand. then he said, “where’s your green?” and i showed him my green watch that i never take off.

i usually wear my green shoes every day, and a green jacket. but on the day i should, i don’t realize it.

it’s funny when people comment that my hair looks different and all i have to say is, “yeah, i washed it.”

so the new thing this year is seeing all my professors drunk at the bar.

so i stepped out of the shower yesterday and slid on the tile floor, even in my shower shoes. i dropped my little shower bucket and made the loudest noise ever, but unfortunately, there was no one else in the bathroom to witness my display of grace in my bathrobe.

i had my nonfiction writing piece workshopped on monday–it was the first time i had really had anything workshopped by a large group and not just two or three people. and it really wasn’t very helpful. i took the two times we saw bob dylan and made it into one story, and all they really told me to do was to expand on everything and that this piece could go in a number of directions. gee, thanks.

i think i’m going to take my fast food experience and turn it into some sectioned piece for my next one. it should be pretty funny and i already have some character sketches in my journal for the class–i’m not sure what the point of it would be but it should be fun. i made a random list the other day with ideas, and didn’t label it anything. so it’s just a list in red sharpie of weird things sitting on my desk and i won’t tell the boyfriend what it’s about.

the list:

-Unshowered overweight women with rotting mouths & whiskers

-Bulimic Asian Lady

-10% Wings Armpit Hair irate woman

-Lie Detector Test

-CUSTOMER MANIA!

-MAN or WOMAN? The mystery remains.

-ice storm

-DRUNKS

-senile elderly man

-bitter

i like lists. i think i’m going to make them more often. we’re supposed to write about “the world around us” in my nonfiction class journal, but i think i should just fill it with lists and doodles and haikus and see what grade i get.

we reached a new landmark in our relationship last night called, “the ‘l’ word” and it wasn’t generic.
