i hate when i am taking an order, and it’s two elderly friends going out to lunch together, and they argue over who’s going to pay the ticket. they both shove money in my face and expect me to make a move or something. i just throw my hands up in the air and say, “which one’s it gonna be?” until one of them declines.

on tuesday i finally went to visit the boyfriend. we went out for pancakes at 9pm and drank beer and he smoked cigarettes on the roof. i watched him do an “interpretive dance” to the flaming lips (it was a party). i didn’t even get to stay for an entire day because of work, but i got my fix and heard great stories and i’m going to see the pixies in october with people i hardly know.

the other day at kfc i was taking this old lady’s order (she comes in all the time and “is a mess” in the words of my manager). she’s a nice lady but will ramble on and on when asked “how are you?” as part of the job.

i’ve been working at kfc for three years. of course, off and on because of school but i have taken her order many many times. however, she said to me, “are you new? i don’t think i’ve seen your smiling face before!”

it was “cute” but i felt bad. i answered and explained that i am only there once in awhile, but i could tell she couldn’t hear me and just smiled back. when i handed her a buffet tray i said, “enjoy your meal” and she couldn’t hear me. so i said it louder. she still couldn’t hear and added, “i still can’t hear what you’re saying, i’m deaf in both ears!” so i leaned towards her and said louder, “i just said to enjoy your meal.” i tried to smile as i said it, but i really didn’t feel that it was very important that she hear that (and she didn’t). so i just kind of smiled and left the counter and let her eat.

it gets repetitive yelling orders back to senior citizens but they can’t help it. also, i don’t know how many times i have had to yell, “DO YOU WANT THAT ORIGINAL OR CRISPY?” and then a second later, “ORGINAL OR EXTRA CRISPY CHICKEN?” and then when i am repeating back the order, they aren’t paying attention and i have to do it three times, loudly. (and they still don’t pay attention). so when i hand out the order, after repeating it several times, they are mad because they OBVIOUSLY ordered two meals and not just the one i charged them for! (the second half of this statement does not only refer to senior citizens).

in conclusion to this job rant, i would just like to state that it is a two way responsibility when ordering food at any establishment.

in other news: the bottom of my feet are fucking bruised from working yesterday.

The people that come into the gas station are mostly redneckesque men or women who have partied far too much in their lives. Tomorrow I work about 14 hours and I get to see both jobs YIPPEE HOORAY!!!!!!

I can’t wait until next Tuesday.

today at work this old man came in and tried to use a coupon for seven pieces of chicken for $4.99–and tried to use the coupon as cash. i would tell him that the total was $5.33 with tax and he’d place one dollar on the counter next to the coupon.

so i repeated the price and said that i needed more than that. he was like, “well, can’t you take it out of that?” and pointed to the coupon.

i tried to explain that the coupon does not work as money, it’s not a gift certificate. it’s just a coupon that tells you how much the special price is. he didn’t understand what i was trying to tell him and said, “well nevermind then. i’ll have someone else wait on me.”

so he left the counter and went to sit down and came back up to the counter when someone else was around and tried to pull the same stunt. but easily gave in when she told him the same thing as me. i guess he was so upset by this that he wasn’t thinking straight and left his wife with a walker inside the store as he went to his car. she was trying to open the door when i asked if she needed help and she said, “i just might. i don’t know why he just left, i can’t walk good or see good!”

when were coupons invented? and why does chicken make people so angry?

if i am not careful my new haircut can be turned into an old lady poof of a ‘do.

summer sucks so far. i’ve been home for one week and two days. all i do is work (now it is 7 days a week), work out, read, and watch guilty pleasure television shows like maury povich or court shows, or makeover shows. it’s embarrassing and i even wake up before 9am most of the time. tomorrow i have to work at 7am.

i like being by myself and hanging out by myself sometimes but maybe that would be different if i actually liked anybody in my town. sometimes i wonder why i didn’t just stay in my apartment over the summer–things probably wouldn’t be much different but i’d have my boyfriend and a few people, at least.

everyone here around my age always talks about cars or they like to go “clubbin’” and listen to techno music. and that’s it, i swear.

i’m still worried about the summer but i guess it’s the distance.

i start my second job on thursday. it’ll be interesting to have something other than fast food, finally. also, i’m hardly getting any hours at kfc so i’m hardly making any money and i’ve hardly got anything to do.

i really need to get to columbia sometime and do some (cheap) shopping and bubble tea drinking.
